Pre-ignition and detonation are responsible for a significant number of engine failures in General Aviation aircraft each year. Pre-ignition occurs when the air-fuel charge ignites while the piston is still compressing the mixture. Detonation is a violent explosion process after the compression stroke near or just after top dead center. This seminar will acquaint pilots with the hazards of pre-ignition and detonation events.
